Proposed new bus station in Lord Street

Post by FMN-503-T on Fri Nov 23, 2012 2:48 am

Vector Bus and Vannin Link would like to make a proposal for a new bus station on Lord Street in Douglas. It would be located on the car park behind the current row of bus stops. We would also like permission to take over the former Transport Office situated in an empty building next to the proposed site. The whole project would ideally be funded by Vector Bus, Vannin Link and Isle of Man Transport

What is proposed
The current row of bus stops and the the bus stop lane would be removed to allow a larger area to work with. A new multi purpose building with a café, toilets and a waiting room would form the new bus station. The new bus stops will be formed by a row of eight bus stops (numbered 1-8) under a canopy to provide shelter whilst boarding and alighting the vehicle. A layover area would be situated on the other side of the station to keep the bus stands clear at all times for vehicle entering and exiting the bus station

If approved then Vector Bus will run a Park and Ride route (PR1) running between the bus station and the proposed park and ride site. A second route (PR2) would run between the proposed park and ride site and the Sea Terminal. See a separate proposal for details of where this site is

Could we have an idea of the costs of the building involved? The government are willing to give a £500,000 grant towards the building of the new Bus Station. Smile

The overall cost would be around £1.5 million so any grants would be gratefully received - many thanks Smile

The grant is very much appreciated, because of this Vannin Link would suggest that both Vannin Link and Vector Isle of Man put forward £500,000 to complete the fund. This is of course provided that Vector are happy to agree with this proposal? Smile
